Purpose

Revival Pioneers Ministry International

What Am I Actually Here For?

You've changed jobs, changed direction, maybe even changed cities, and the question hasn't gone away. Maybe it's not the job you're missing. Maybe it's something deeper you haven't been shown yet.

Start Your Reflection

If you've spent years searching for "the one thing" you're meant to do, you're not alone, and you may be asking a slightly different question than the one that actually has an answer.

The Real Misunderstanding

Your Purpose Was Never a Job Title

Most people quietly believe that finding their purpose means finding the right career, the one job that will finally make sense of everything. But look at Esther: her purpose was never simply "be queen." Being queen was the position God used to accomplish something much bigger, saving her people at exactly the right moment. Your career, whatever it is, is the vehicle. It was never meant to be the destination.

"And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"
Esther 4:14 (NIV)

That means you don't need a different job to have a purpose. Your career may change over the years, but wherever God positions you, that position can become the vehicle through which you glorify Him and serve others, not the purpose itself.

The Real Hope

Something Was Already Deposited in You

Before you ever chose a career, a city, or a direction, something was already placed in you, a potential, a uniqueness, a way of seeing and doing things that's yours alone. You're not missing a piece. You're carrying one you may not have fully recognized yet.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
Psalm 139:14 (NIV)

Your Reflection

Look Back, Look Around, Look Ahead

Purpose does not depend on exceptional talent. It begins with noticing what is already in your hands and in front of you. Take a few quiet minutes this week with these three questions.

  1. Look back What have people noticed in you more than once, such as kindness, patience, organizing, encouraging, or solving problems? Which challenges from your past taught you something you could now share with someone else?
  2. Look around What needs in your family, workplace, church, or neighbourhood concern you, even a little? What do you find hard to ignore?
  3. Look ahead Where could you serve one person or meet one need this week, using what you already have? Choose one small step, and take it.

Write your answers down and come back to them in a month. A small, faithful step is a good place to begin.

Go Deeper

Three short teachings, whenever you have a few more minutes.

Two Ways to Express Your Purpose

In Pastor James's teaching, purpose finds expression in two ways, underneath whatever career a person holds.

The first is endorsing God. In familiar language, that means honouring God and reflecting His character through how we live: the way we work, treat people, and use what He has given us. Scripture speaks of doing everything for the glory of God, and of letting our good deeds lead others to glorify Him.

The second is equipping others, helping the people around you recognize and use what is in them, too. Scripture connects gifts and service directly, encouraging each person to use whatever gift they have received to serve others, so that in all things God may be praised. Pastor James also describes six steps seen in how Jesus trained His disciples: He saw what was already in them, said what He intended to do with it, showed them how it worked, steered them into trying it themselves, supported them while they learned, and surveyed the results with them afterward.

Scripture to read: 1 Corinthians 10:31, Matthew 5:16, and 1 Peter 4:10 to 11.

How to Find What's Already in You

Pastor James uses the first three letters of the word PURPOSE, P-U-R, to describe this discovery process. Potential is the inborn ability sitting dormant until it's exercised, the way an axe needs sharpening before it can cut anything. Uniqueness is not just what you can do, but the particular way you do it that no one else quite replicates, even when doing the same thing as someone else. Reflection is looking back over your own life's challenges and celebrations for the pattern that keeps showing up, the same way young David's private battles with a lion and a bear quietly prepared him for a public battle with a giant.

Scripture to read: 1 Samuel 17:34 to 37.

Turning Potential Into Progress

The final four letters of PURPOSE, P-O-S-E, describe how what's discovered gets developed and maximized. Passion keeps you pursuing it even when it costs something. Optimization means honestly asking what's working, what's wasted effort, and what needs to change. Strategy turns a vague hope into a clear target with real steps toward it. Evaluation means checking your progress along the way, rather than only at the end. Regular reflection helps you recognize progress and adjust your next steps.

A Prayer For You

Lord, show me what You already placed in me before I ever asked for it. Help me stop waiting for a different life to start living the purpose already sitting in this one. Amen.

Purpose is easiest to walk out in community, with people who can see in you what you can't always see in yourself. That's what RPMI is for.
